Places to Visit in Coonoor

1. Sim’s Park - Spread in an area of 12 ha, the park has a collection of over 1,000 plant species, including magnolia, pines, tree ferns, and camellia. The botanical garden is partly developed in the Japanese style and derived its name from J. D. Sim, the secretary of the Madras Club in 1874. The key attraction of the park is the annual fruit and vegetable show held in May.

2. Dolphin's Nose Viewpoint - 10 km from Coonoor. It not only provides a panoramic view of the vast expanse of the Nilgiri Hills but also of Catherine Falls.

3. Lamb’s Rock - On way to Dolphin's Nose, about 5½ km from Coonoor, lays Lamb's Rock, another vantage point to view the fantastic landscape and the tea and coffee plantations.

4. Droog Fort - At a distance of 13 km from Coonoor, Droog takes one into the past, with the ruins of a fort, which was once used by Tipu Sultan in the 16th century.

5. Law's fall – On the Coonoor-Mettupalaym road, this majestic falls is a great picnic spot.

6. Katery Falls – Also located on the Coonoor-Mettupalaym road, this falls supplies a power of 1000KW near Selas

7. Hidden Valley - Beyond the Wellington golf course, is the Hidden valley surrounding Coonoor. Away from the roads, access is only through a long trek but you will find it worthwhile. The panoramic beauty, lush vegetation all around with hidden streams and waterfalls makes for an exciting trek. Apart from the beautiful environ, the adventure and thrill of hiking through such a natural wonder is a memorable experience.
